Record Store Day is fast approaching. (What are you doing this Saturday?) As a part of the festivities, lots of awesome artists are putting out limited edition 7', 10' and just plain ol' releases. At this point in the year, Record Store Day is set to be the biggest street date for music releases in 2010. And of course, most of this good stuff is on vinyl.
There are special releases coming Springsteen, Fela Kuti, Gorillaz, Elvis Costello, and Hendrix. The Stones are putting out a 7" with unreleased recordings from the Exile on Main Street sessions. John Lennon has a sweet 7,000 copy release called Singles Bag that includes 'Mother', 'Imagine', and 'Watching the Wheels' all with the original B-sides and a poster, some post cards, and a John Lennon 45 adapter for your turntable.
Modest Mouse is reissuing The Moon & Antarctica and REM is reissuing Chronic Town. Bon Iver is releasing a split 7' with Peter Gabriel where Bon Iver sings and Peter Gabriel song and vice versa.
The Beastie Boys are putting out a "Mystery 12 inch" and they're not telling anyone what's on it. There are only 1,000 of those, so get one if you can. Sonic Youth has a tribute album called Hits Are for Squares for which people like Dave Eggers, Beck, Mike Watt, and Radiohead picking their favorite songs. Beach House is doing a special EP.
Check out this video of Chris Brown from Bull Moose records. Chris is the guy who came up with the idea for Record Store Day, and he gives the run down of all the hot releases coming out on Saturday.
Get out to your local store this Saturday and buy some records!
