Mick Jagger Talks to the BBC About Reissue of Exile on Main Street: "

The Rolling Stones during the making of Exile on Main StreetOriginally posted on May 14, 2010

Here at Daily Vinyl we're getting super stoked about getting a fresh, remastered copy of Exile on Main Street. The polished up version is hitting the US next Tuesday.

In advance of the release Mick Jagger recently spoke with the BBC about their debaucherous times making the album in the south of France.

Jagger on the recording environment:

How accurate is the mythology surrounding the recording of Exile On Main Street?
'The wild nights, the orgies, the drug taking! I remember it well. Every bit of it!
I mean, it was a lot of fun - but there were a few bumps. It was a bumpy period, historically. There was a war going on, the Nixon thing was happening. Tax was through the roof. It was very difficult. The end of the '60s felt very strained.
But despite all the excesses, it was quite a creative period. When you're quite young, you can get away with that.'

Jagger on technology:

'The model of records and record selling is a very complex subject and quite boring, to be honest.'

It's interesting to hear The Stones talk like this. They haven't been as nostalgic about their epic past as some artists such as The Beatles or Bob Dylan. But we're excited to see them start to give their legacy the commercial treatment and to see this album get some attention. We weren't around to see it come out the first time, so it's fun to see it being discussed in the culture at large."
