Don't Say We Didn't Tell You So, Vinyl Records Sales Keep Rising

Don't Say We Didn't Tell You So, Vinyl Records Sales Keep Rising: "

buying records from record storeIn an article posted to Computerworld last week, it was reported that according to Nielsen Entertainment, vinyl sales are soaring. In 2009 2.5 million albums were sold in the U.S. up from 1.88 million just the year before! No matter how you slice it, the craving for vinyl is higher today than at any time in recent history.

This jump just goes to show how important vinyl record sales are becoming for the ever evolving music industry, what once was a novelty is quickly becoming a real money maker. Just look at the increase in sales from just a few years ago, vinyl record sales were up 14% from 2007-2008, increasing from 858,000 to 990,000. That seemed like a ton of records back then, but compared to last years jump it's a drop in the bucket.

"The trend sure does seem sustainable," said David Bakula, senior vice president of analytics at Nielsen Entertainment. "And the record industry is really doing a lot of cool things to not only make the format come alive but to make it more exciting for consumers."

Not like our readers need any assurance, but it's always encouraging to see such positive numbers. Vinyl is totally back baby!
