Most of you reading this already own a turntable and are spinning the many great records you get from us at Daily Vinyl on it right? Well, we also know some of you do not own a good turntable and a lot of you, like us, are always looking for new gear and upgrades. We just recently came across a great article at Don Lindch's Sound Advice Blog (via the Vinyl Record Architect) that describes two really good audiophile quality turntables for a pretty decent price, and we wanted to pass it along to our readers.
The first is the Rega P1 Turntable with an Ortofon OM-5E cartridge already pre-installed. For anyone interested in vinyl you know that Rega has been a premier name for quality sounding turntables since the mid-80s and this particular model is no different. Super sleek design, excellent pre-installed cartridge and sounds great. At around $395 it's one of the cheapest turntables Rega offers.
The second one that is looked at is the Pro-Ject Debut III Turntable, which will run you $50-$100 less -- depending if you get a snazzy color or not -- than the aforementioned Rega. The Pro-Ject comes stock with the Ortofon OM-5E cartridge pre-installed as well so it makes the comparing the two pretty fair. Also an excellent turntable, with the Pro-Ject Debut series being just as much an industry standard as Rega.
