Portion of Distortion: Melvins Self Titled EP

Portion of Distortion: Melvins Self Titled EP: "

Melvins Self Title EPOriginally posted on June 18, 2010

So From The Nursery released this awesome self-titled 2,000-copy limited-edish e.p. earlier this year, featuring a longer version of “Dies Iraea” (the original, pussy-length version can be found on 2008’s Nude with Boots), a remix of “It Tastes Better Then the Truth” (also from Nude) and their badass, 9 plus minute cover of The Wipers’ “Youth of America,” from 2001’s charmingly-titled ElectroretardI love this album art, haha).

For those of you who aren’t fans of being hipped to cool tidbits of information: “Dies Irae” (the Melvins are so cool, they added an extra “a”) is the song that leads off Stanley Kubrick’s take on The Shining. You know those amazing helicopter shots accompanied by Wendy Carlos and Rachel Elkind’s electronic version of Hector Berlioz’ interpretation of this famous latin hymn? The one that sets the tone for the entire flick? Yeah, that one. Wikipedia rules, by the way.

Anywho, I found this jam misfiled at Bleecker Street Records back in April. How serendipitous.

Unfortunately, I can only find the original versions of the first two tracks to post here, but Nude with Boots is a killer record, and the e.p. is also available as a digital download on iTunes. Naturally, you’ll be much, much cooler if you hunt down the record.
