Hear The National's New Album at The NY Times: "

In case you're wondering if you should buy The National's new album, High Violet, when it comes out on May 11, you can hear it now at the NY Times. You can stream it on the left hand sidebar of that article. There's also an in-depth article by the Times' Nicholas Dawiddoff that dives into the band's creative process and group dynamics. Definitely worth a read.

It seems that offering live streams of the album well before its street date has become a standard part of the roll out of new releases. Thank god the labels have finally come around and recognized that this is not going to eat into their sales. It also seems like the record business' digital shakeup is finally starting to settle down.

The days of the big hit business might be over, but in its place we're getting a lot more smaller labels that can support thoughtful bands like The National sell 350,000 copies of The Boxer. It's kind of like back to the 50's and 60's before everything got consolidated. This is a great trend for the future of music.
