Iggy is the quintessential Punk icon. From his looks, to music and performance, Iggy embodies the spirit of the genre in every way. Since The Stooges burst onto the scene in the 1960's rock music would never be the same, and the main reason for that is Iggy.
He was born as James Osterberg on April 21, 1947, and was raised in a trailer park close to Ann Arbor, MI. It wasn't until young James saw the Doors in concert, that he would know that Rock 'n Roll was going to be his life's calling. After the Doors performance, Osterberg would change his name to Iggy Pop start up the now famous band The Stooges.
When The Stooges called it quits for the 2nd and final time, he checked himself into the Neuropsychiatric Institute in California and tried to rekindle his fledgeling career. It would be David Bowie who would help to propel Iggy into the limelight. He would reinvent Iggy as a solo artist, taking him on the road and helping to produce the influential The Idiot, and Lust for Life. Iggy would continue to release records throughout the 70's such as Soldier and New Values, and have moderate success through the 80's.
His music continues to influence popular music, inspiring Nirvana and Mudhoney in the 1990's and countless indie bands through the current day.
